Monteux-Bernese Oberland. 1922.
The MOB railway–or Chemins de Fer Montreux-Oberland Bernois–is one of the oldest electric railways in Switzerland. Located in southwest Switzerland, the line opened in stages, beginning with Montreux to Les Avants on December 17, 1901; it was completed on July 16, 1912. From the very start the MOB had the character of a mainline railway, featuring through trains with dining and saloon coaches. However, what’s being sold in this uncredited promotion for the MOB is elegance, comfort and spectacular Alpine views. In fact, the poster is so effective that viewing it from the vantage point of today’s cramped transport is almost enough to make one weep. Because of its poor state of repair, this line was closed on June 14, 1975. But, between 1977 and 1979 the MOB was fully modernized with new tracks and overhead lines, reopening on September 27, 1979. And the Golden Pass Route is still very much a part of their service equipped with panoramic domed-end cars. This is the English-language version.
