L'Etendard Français. 1891.
L’Etendard Français was a small manufacturer of bicycles and tricycles, sold primarily out of Paris. Its name translates as “banner," hence why the coquettish cyclist is both holding her country’s flag as well as wearing patriotic colors. Here, the company is offering a payment plan of fifty francs down and twenty-five per month thereafter; however, we are not told how many months it will take to pay off our new bicycle. This is one of two bicycle posters Chéret created during his fifty-year long career.

Zim Strock. ca. 1890.
Founded by its titular owner in 1884, Strock was a boutique bicycle manufacturer. This is arguably the best poster created for the brand, a two-sheet design equating its agility to that of a tiger. Rare!

Gladiator. ca. 1892.
While another poster for the company is without a doubt its most famous advertisement (see PAI-LIX, 47), this sweet Victorian image of a cherub-faced rider being celestially informed of her smart decision against a backdrop of flower-like tires is perhaps its most charming.
