Michel Gyarmathy, the art director of the Folies Bergère, created this image based on the photograph by Harcourt. It became the classic poster promoting Josephine’s return to the Folies Bergère after World War II. The poster was used for the cover of the biography “Josephine: The Hungry Heart," and was featured at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for the 2006-7 exhibition "Josephine Baker: Image and Icon."
