Cycles Plasson. 1897.
This companion Cycles Plasson poster shows a woman in bloomers (excellent cycling attire for the new lady of the '90s) alighting on her Plasson Cycle, ignoring the sneering glances of her skirted counterparts for bucking against feminine traditions. Together, these two posters tell one complete story, of female cattiness, bicycle-driven independence, and finally companionship and support by a man unafraid of female independence. Coincidentally, this is precisely what was happening in the wider culture during the bike craze of the 1890s.
