La Plume : 4 Volumes. 1895-1898.
Four years of La Plume, from 1895 to 1898, in yearly hardcover bindings. La Plume was the most influential publication dealing with posters, although it also covered many other aspects of Parisian cultural life, including literature, art, and theatre. These are the four most formative years of the publication, and include special issues dedicated to International Posters (with 100 poster reproductions, from Beardsley to Mackintosh and Bradley to Penfield) and an entire issue devoted solely to the works of Mucha, including complete listings of all his posters, panels, and illustrations through July 1897; many of these are reproduced. The works total 448, and the editor, Leon Deschamps, assured subscribers that there was more to come in future editions. La Plume also sold all these posters, and prices are given for hundreds of them. Almost all are under 10 francs; the top prices were 25 francs for Lautrec's Moulin Rouge and 50 francs for the Café Concert album (see no. 504). La Plume also published 43 posters to promote exhibitions at their gallery, the Salon des Cent. This is a must for the serious poster collector.
